Spit and polish (noun) – extreme attention to cleanliness, orderliness, smartness of appearance and ceremony often at the expense of operational efficiency.

This is my design process to a T! (Well, we’ll leave the extreme attention to cleanliness to my husband. That’s not me. The rest…guilty!)
I’m Elyse and today I’m launching Spit & Polish. I hope this blog will be a rich source of inspiration, encouragement, grace, and information that will help you create a home you love to live in.
I’m mama to 2 babies and 1 fur baby. My husband and I are college sweethearts who lived in condos and apartments for the first 9 years of our marriage and saved up and built our first house. Here I’ll share how we’re turning these walls into our living, breathing, home. We’ll talk design and decor and all that happens in it.
Hubs and I moved into this place with our not-quite-2 year old daughter and dog 2 weeks before I was to give birth to our son. We came from a 2 bedroom apartment that we primarily treated as a bunk and storage unit for all the lighting and plumbing fixtures we ordered for the house. We brought with us what little “decor” we had and otherwise have started from scratch fluffing our nest.
This house is a dream come true for us but is also a (welcome) challenge to outfit. And while I’m anxious to cozy it up as soon as possible I aim to leave space for us to collect in it things we love. As I’ve already suggested, my process is slow. I’m constantly sizing things up, moving things, re-organizing, and re-thinking. But I am not a perfectionist (and I think you should probably cut yourself some slack too!).
If I can help you with a project directly, please don’t hesitate to reach out! You can contact me via email at Elyse@spitandpolishhome.com or through the blog on the Contact page. I can’t wait to meet you! Let’s get started!
